Meet the designer

April te Bulte

Hello! I’m April.
I’m a queer freelance designer based in Halifax, NS, with over eight years of experience in design and visual storytelling—both independently and within agencies. My passion? Creating vibrant, meaningful work that makes the world a little better.

I’ve worked with independent creators, musicians, small businesses, and organizations in the non-profit, social impact, and sustainability sectors—locally and globally. With extensive experience collaborating with marketing and communication teams, I ensure brand consistency while adapting my style to fit each project’s unique needs.

My expertise spans brand development, multi-faceted campaigns, events, long-form reports, and illustration. I believe in true collaboration—working closely with you to bring your vision to life through thoughtful, strategic design.

At the heart of everything I do is accessible, inclusive design. My approach honours your organization’s history while offering a fresh, elevated strategy that feels both timeless and deeply engaging to your audience. Let’s create something incredible together!

A few things about me

I find joy in collecting overlooked vintage treasures. Postcards, old tins, and dishware are my absolute favourites. There’s something special about the stories they carry, sparking a sense of inspiration that feels rich, time-honoured, and deeply rooted in history.

Forever dabbling in new hobbies. From tattooing to film photography, my latest obsession is sewing. I’m determined to make a quilt this year!

Growing up on a farm in a small town, deep in the BC mountains, gave me an innate appreciation for the slow, simple beauty of the natural world.

I’m an avid reader, usually juggling a few books at once. While I’ll read almost anything, I have a soft spot for historical fiction, personal essays, and fantasy. Want to see what I’m reading? Let’s be friends on Fable

Collaboration is the heart of my process

Meaningful design isn’t just created–it’s uncovered, shaped, and built in deep collaboration with the people behind it.

That’s why my process starts with getting to know you, your vision, your passions, and what drives your organization. I believe you can’t create a brand that feels authentic without truly understanding the people it represents.

I’m the designer, but you hold the true vision. My role is to take all those pieces and craft something memorable, something that resonates with your dream audience and, most importantly, something you feel connected to. Because in the end, this brand isn’t for me—it’s for you. It lives on with you, long after the work is done.
